There have been a couple of attempts to revive the park since (the latest just a couple of years ago), but Ghost Town in the Sky remains closed. Then the recession hit in 2008 and it proved to be too much. He did, and then park reopened in May 2007 after millions were spent on renovations. To get there, visitors had to take a chairlift more than twelve hundred feet up the mountain just to get to the park’s front gate!Įventually, some of the older rides at Ghost Town in the Sky fell into disrepair and rather than fix, owner R.B. At the peak of the park’s popularity more than a half million people visited Ghost Town each year. The old Dance Hall sits majestically abandoned on the center of the island. It was known for its live-action entertainment and its amazing setting atop Buck Mountain. The extra drop made it the tallest log flume in the UK throughout its operational life (this record was reverted to Loggers Leap at Thorpe Park as this ride used to hold the record before the new drop was added, and when that closed in 2015, the title went to Tiger Rock at Chessington World of Adventures ). Ghost Town in the sky became a huge smoky mountain destination for families. Like most theme parks, if you build it, it will come. 1 History Loggers Leap opened in 1989 on the lake at the back of the park, along with a new themed area Canada Creek.
